Zaharoff Aurum Review
Share
Hey frag fam, Joe A. here with another one for ya! A fragrance I experienced when it was colder outside (something I wouldn't touch in the hotter weather!!), a newer release by this house, I'd like to tell you about: Zaharoff’s Aurum
Released just last year, Aurum is another addition to Zaharoff’s Signature line of fragrances, receiving mostly positive reviews within the fragrance community. I was fortunate to get my hands on this one early on. Right at the opening, in all honesty, this fragrance can be summed up with one word, HONEY! This literally is honeycomb in a bottle! The fragrance opens with a burst of sticky sweet honey with a touch of heavy cinnamon and a bit of clove in the background. I literally checked the directions to see if I was supposed to spray, or smear, this frag on. Aurum is a very photorealistic take on honey and not at all for those who don’t like this accord. The projection in the opening is moderate to strong. Over spraying can easily overwhelm you!
Aurum opens up with a nutty and creamy profile, reminding me of Honey-Nut Cheerios, as it proceeds to the mid. The nuttiness and creamy accords tone down the initial blast of sweet honey and makes the fragrance a bit more palatable. The mixture is strong and blended well with high quality ingredients. The carefully crafted composition ensures that the scent transitions seamlessly, maintaining a harmonious balance between the different notes. I’m worried of stepping outside in fear of attracting bees, it’s that realistic. Projection is still moderate to strong here.
Into the dry-down, Aurum evolves into a warm and sensuous embrace, thanks to the emergence of amber, a key player in the foundation. It’s interesting to see that a powerful accord such as amber get out muscled by honey!! The amber for its part, adds a velvety and resinous quality to the scent. Vanilla sweetens the composition, contributing a luscious and comforting facet that enhances the overall allure. Sweet, creamy nuttiness continues here with notes of tonka and praline. A carefully curated blend of base notes in Zaharoff's Aurum creates a captivating and enduring trail, making it a fragrance that not only engages the senses but also wraps the wearer in an opulent and seductive aura (of honey!!)
One of the standout features of Aurum is its impressive longevity and projection. Longevity, I got 10 plus hours with this beast. I don’t think I’d get that long if I just poured straight honey on my chest… The fragrance remains noticeable throughout the day, making it suitable for day or night occasions, however, it’s most suitable for cold, cold weather. Projection for Aurum is moderate to strong; I wouldn’t venture to wear this in the office or gym. It also has a sensual and seductive background, a little dirtiness that anchors the high sticky sweetness of the scent and, to me, tilts it just a tad feminine. Casual wear and certain date-nights would Aurum be good for only, limiting Aurum’s overall versatility.
Final Verdict: Zaharoff’s Aurum is an amber vanilla fragrance that is the epitome of honey scents. Straight honey, its scent profile is held in check with background characters seeking only to contain the power of this main character. A gourmand fragrance with great projection but very limited versatility, it has a photorealistic scent profile that makes it a captivating experience for those who appreciate the artistry of perfumery. Joe Average take: This is an excellent fragrance for the fragrance enthusiast and would score very high if based on scent alone, but alas, it’s not. Don’t get me wrong, it’s worth its price tag, but man, it’ll surely give you diabetes if used unwisely. Get you a sample if you’re really interested, but for the average Joe, pass! Score 6.5/10
